Remember when Microsoft was evil because Internet Explorer was bundled with Windows operating system ? At anytime a user could install another internet browser like Netscape, Opera or Firefox, if they wanted to.
Now look at the Apple iPhone. It comes with Safari and even if it does literally everything, Apple is preventing users from installing any alternative mobile browsers on their iPhone.
And Google is no better. Their Operating system Chrome OS will only work with Chrome, the browser made by … Google Inc.
For anyone dreaming of open standards and of more freedom for the users, it’s quite sad to see two major tech companies going down that road.
